Coaches will hand out the race bibs for girls and running buddies. All Running Buddies who registered by October 15th will receive a 5K shirt from your team’s coaches. Anyone who ordered additional shirts will also pick these up from the coaches.

What to Wear: Girls on the Run/Heart & Sole Program Participants should wear their program shirts. To ensure a safe, enjoyable day, we encourage runners to dress appropriately for the weather. Suggestions include dressing in multiple layers (not all cotton, if possible), including hats and gloves/mittens. Consider bringing extra layers for before the race. Lockers are available in the YMCA. Spectators and Participants are welcome to use the gym and locker rooms in the YMCA as a warming area.

What is a Celebratory 5K?
Our 5k event is a family friendly, untimed run/walk.   No clock, no winners, no pressure!   We will kick off the day with fun activities including our happy hair station, face painting, hula hoops and music.  Runners are encouraged to show some GOTR spirit which may include tutus, silly socks, super hero capes and anything else that puts on smile on your face.

The Celebratory 5k is rain/snow or shine.  The event will not be rescheduled.

Each GOTR girl is encouraged to run the Celebratory 5k with a running buddy.  A running buddy can be a family member, friend or volunteer who runs with a GOTR girl at the 5k – encouraging her, cheering her on and sharing in her excitement along the way!  We welcome families to assign a running buddy to complete the 5k with their girl on the run!  Running Buddies assigned by the family can be male or female and must be at least 16 years of age.  If you do not have a Running Buddy for your daughter, we can match her up with one of her coaches or one our volunteer running buddies who are eager to join her for the 5k.  GOTR Volunteer Running Buddies are at least 18 years of age and will undergo a background check.

Weather/Emergency Policy
The one thing we can’t fully plan around is the weather, and as you know, autumn in Maine is difficult to forecast! We will be watching the forecast closely, and if dangerous conditions are predicted for race day, we reserve the right to modify, shorten or cancel the event. In the event of a cancellation, the event will not be rescheduled, and consistent with the registration policy, no refunds or transfers will be given.

If inclement weather is predicted for the morning of the 5k, we will make a decision no later than 7 p.m.  on Saturday, November 14th.  Our decision will be posted on our website homepage, our Facebook and Twitter feeds, and in an email to all coaches, families, and running buddies.
